The movie tells us a story about friendship
between a young Albert narracott with a trough bred horse that his father “Albert
narracott” bought during an auction in the market. Joey has a strong and deep
bonding to the through bred horse that he called “joey” ever since joey is just
a foal. But their friendship is about to get ripped off by the war. Albert father’s decided to sell joey to save
their farm from being taken by the landlord “Mr. Lyons” that decided to take
back his farm is the narracott family cannot pay back their 30 guinea rent.
But Albert didn't make the war as
an excuse to tear down his friend ship with joey. He promises joey that he will
find him no matter the distance between them and how long it took him to find
joey. Joey is sold to a soldier called” captain
Nicholls”. Captain Nicholls promise Albert to kept a good eye on joey and take
care of him.
But unfortunately things seem started
to get bad from that moment. Captain Nicholls is KIA (killed in action) by a
machine gun during a combat. When Albert gets the message he become really
worried but there is nothing that he can do, because joey is taken by the
enemies and he didn't know the location. Albert could only wish for his horse
that he raise since it was just a foal to survive the cold and devastating war.
As time passed by, Albert joins
the army and serves as a private soldier, which is the lowest rank for a
soldier. He must pay a high price for getting into the war. He must watch his friend
died inside a trench because of a poison gas that the German put. And Albert must
also lose his ability to see for a while because of the poison gas that gets
into his eyes. But thanks to that,
finally Albert can meet again with joey even though joey is really in a bad
shape. So after the war end joey and Albert get back home to Devon where they
belong together.
